TERRYVILLE — Ethel Grace Norton, 85, of Terryville, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013, at St. Francis Hartford. She was born in Malone, N.Y. on Oct. 9, 1927, daughter of William and Florence Raville Duquette.

Ethel graduated from Stamford High School in 1945, Southern Connecticut State College in 1975, and graduated also from Plattsburgh State University. She taught in Connecticut, New York, Washington and Arizona. In 1951, she married Jeremiah B. Norton in Lakehurst, N.J. while in the Navy. Jerry worked at Sikorsky, died in 1975 and is buried in Chasm Falls, N.Y.

Ethel was a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader during the childhood years of her six children in Beacon Falls. Ethel was member of Notre Dame Altar Rosary Society. Since 1973, she was an anti-abortion activist in Birthright, Lambs of Christ, and Operation Rescue. She was also a member of Amvets Auxilliary and Legion of Mary.

She enjoyed writing classes, motorized wheelchair, and antiquing. She supported Catholic charities, American Legion and women veterans. She fulfilled her childhood dreams with trips to Alaska and Rome, Italy.

Ethel is survived by four sons, John Norton of Vallejo, Calif., Paul Norton of Terryville, Mark and wife Jyll Norton of New Haven, N.Y., and Patrick Norton of Olympia, Wash.; two daughters, Linda Donovan, Terese and husband Daniel France of Bristol; two sisters, Evelyn Duquette of Ogdensburg, N.Y. and Theresa Davis of Tucson, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by three brothers, Albert, Clarence and Arthur Duquette and granddaughter, Karen Lee Fetzer of Burlington.

Services are in Malone, N.Y. and burial will be in the spring at Chasm Falls, New York.
