Obituary: Emma V. (Almeida) Andrews

Naugatuck – Mrs. Emma V. (Almeida) Andrews, age 90, formerly of 53 Conrad St., Naugatuck, died Monday Jan. 24, at the Geer Home in Canaan after a long illness. She was the widow of Ernest E. Andrews.

Mrs. Andrews was born in Bristol, R.I., on May 5,1920 a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Mederios) Almeida. She was retired from Hardwood Products in Guilford, Maine where she worked for many years and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Naugatuck.

She was a life member of the American Legion Ladies Auxillary and a member of the Legion of Mary, the St. Francis of Assisi Church Parish Council, and the Naugatuck Council of Catholic Women. She taught CCD at St. Francis of Assisi Church, volunteered for many years with the American Red Cross, volunteered thousands of hours at Waterbury and St. Mary’s Hospitals and volunteered at the St. Francis Food Bank.

Mrs. Andrews is survived by two sisters: Isabella Benoit of San Antonio, Texas and Constance “Connie” Almeida of Naugatuck and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers: James Almeida, Alfred Almeida, Manuel Almeida, Louis Almeida and Edward Almeida and two sisters: Olivia Thomas and Agnes LaRose.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church 338 North Main St., Naugatuck.

Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will be in Pingree Cemetery in Parkman, Maine in the spring. There are no calling hours. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home 82 Fairview Ave. Naugatuck is in charge of arrangements.
