Elizabeth (Sauer) Ogle

Elizabeth (Sauer) Ogle, 82, passed away at St. Francis Hospital on Dec. 10, 2020. For many years, “Betty” handled, with grace, her significant health challenges, but ultimately could not surmount her brief illness with COVID-19.

Betty was born on July 26, 1938, to the late Otto Eugene Sauer and Eva (Vinsavage) Sauer, and was raised in Seymour, where she graduated from Seymour High School. She went on to receive her education degree from Southern Connecticut State College and began her teaching career at Laurel Ledge School in Beacon Falls, where she met her beloved late husband, Harold R. Ogle. They were married on Nov. 23, 1963, and settled in Beacon Falls. Together they devoted their lives to their loving family and their community. They were devout parishioners of St. Michael’s Church. Betty’s many achievements included her dedication to youth activities, as a Girl Scout leader, member of the PTA, director of religious education and Catholic Youth Organization leader. She was also a member of the Junior Women’s Club. Later on, she continued her teaching career at Algonquin and Community schools in Prospect, until she retired in 2000. In 2012, Betty moved to The Herbert T. Clark House in Glastonbury, where she resided until 2018 when she required greater care and became a resident of St. Mary Home in West Hartford. At both facilities she experienced loving care that kept her safe and happy, for which her family is most grateful.

Above all, Betty just loved people and leaves behind so many family members and friends who loved her dearly, most especially her three daughters and their families, Claire Smith and husband, David, of West Hartford; Karin Stasiowski and husband, Mark, of Manchester; Suzanne Lord and husband, Alex, of Waterford; and six cherished grandchildren, Christian and Natalie Smith, Julia and Ryan Stasiowski, and Meghan and Eric Lord. She also leaves behind her devoted brother, George Sauer of Hamden; her sister-in-law, Harriet Sauer of Prospect; and was predeceased by her brother, Eugene Sauer. She was “Aunt Betty” to numerous nieces and nephews for whom she cared deeply. She will be forever missed by all.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 25 Maple Ave., Beacon Falls. Interment will follow at the family plot at St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck. Due to COVID-19, all services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation online at www.parkinson.org or through the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St., Seymour, CT 06483. Donations can also be made to a food bank of your choice.
