CHESHIRE — Elizabeth S. “Betty” (Suren) Kecskes, 98, formerly of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls, passed away on Saturday June 1, 2013 at Masonic Health Care Center in Wallingford. She was the beloved widow of Stephen M. Kecskes.

Mrs. Kecskes was born in Bridgeport on June 4, 1914, daughter of the late Julius and Bessie (Kmetzo) Suren. She graduated from Huntington School. Betty had retired from Bristol-Babcock Co. after many years of service and had served as secretary and trustee for the Bristol-Babcock Recording Club. She had also worked at Waterbury Hospital and was a volunteer for the Red Cross blood drives for the Naugatuck YMCA.

While living in Cheshire, she worked to gather clothes for refugees in Waterbury sponsored by the state of Connecticut. Betty was a Regent for the Daughters of Isabella as well as past president and trustee. She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Beacon Falls and a member of the parish Ladies Guild. She also belonged to the Beacon Falls Senior Center, Naugatuck Senior Friendship Club where she served as trustee, the senior center and senior Bingo Club of Cheshire.

Mrs. Kecskes is survived by her son, Paul S. Kecskes and his wife Elizabeth of Southington; her grandson, Brian Kecskes and his wife Melinda of Cheshire; her great-grandchildren, Ashley Marie and Daniel Anthony Kecskes of Cheshire; her sister, Barbara Novak and her husband Robert of Sterling, Va., and several nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Nagy, Grace Walcek, and Ethel Keleman; her brother, Julius Suren, Jr. and a grandson, Anthony Kecskes.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 10 a.m. from the Naugatuck
Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Michael Church, 25 Maple Ave., Beacon Falls, for a mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9 to 10 a.m.
