NAUGATUCK — Mrs. Elizabeth (Durette) Soderberg, 79, of Beacon Manor Circle, Naugatuck, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Apple Rehab Center. She was the widow of Arthur Soderberg.
Mrs. Soderberg was born in Waterbury on Sept. 12, 1932, a daughter of the late Lynwood and Lyzbeth (Dermody) Durette. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident and a retiree of the Footwear Division of Uniroyal, Inc. where she worked in the office for many years. She enjoyed bingo, camping, and caring for her 63 foster children. She was a communicant of St. Vincent Ferrer Church.
She leaves her son, David Soderberg of Waterbury; daughter, Donna Carmody and her husband Paul of Naugatuck; brother, Lynwood Durette and his wife Eleanor of Waterbury; two sisters, Patricia Hillman of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Linda Girard of Waterbury; ten grandchildren, Taylor, Haley, Lucas, Iliana, Deacon, Faith, Virgil, Spencer, Emily, and Parker; foster children, Debbie Gignic, Denise Occozchowski, Scott and Steven Polek, Dale Renshaw, and Kathy and MaryJo Vennero; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the “girls” of Apple Rehab for the wonderful care given to Betty.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck is assisting the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to an animal rescue charity of the donor’s choice.
