NAUGATUCK — Edward W. Mychaskiw died peacefully at home Monday morning, June 24, 2019.

Ed was born Jan. 6, 1932 in Montreal to Stanley and Magdalene Mychaskiw. At an early age he and his family moved to the United States and settled in Naugatuck. He graduated from Naugatuck High School, obtained a BS degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Connecticut and an MS degree in engineering from the University of Bridgeport. He married his childhood sweetheart, Josephine, in Montreal in 1955 and returned with her to Naugatuck.

Ed worked at Sikorski, Pratt & Whitney, and Avco-Lycoming focusing on structural analysis for the aviation industry. He was an author on the manual for the CH-53 Sikorsky helicopter and worked on the Blackhawk helicopter, military tanks and jet engines. He enjoyed fishing, especially fly-fishing, all his life and cherished many outings with childhood friends, his children and grandchildren.

Ed is survived by his wife of 63 years, Josephine; son, Ed (Kathy) of Simpsonville, S.C.; daughter, Donna of Middlebury; grandson, Jeffrey Mychaskiw (Erica) of Humble, Texas; granddaughter, Julie Mychaskiw Newman (Casey) of Greenville, S.C.; great-grandchildren Isla and Evett Mychaskiw of Humble, Texas. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Stella Jasinski of Naugatuck. He is predeceased by his brother, Walter; and his grandson, John Mychaskiw.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St., Waterbury at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, is assisting the family with arrangements.
