Obituary: Edward Francis Fowler Jr.

PROSPECT — Mr. Edward Francis Fowler, Jr., 83, of Prospect, died Monday, April 30, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. He was the husband of Jane Fowler.

Mr. Fowler was born in Waterbury on Dec. 19, 1928 son of the late Edward Francis Fowler, Sr. and the late Laura (Barth) Fowler. He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service having worked as a clerk at the Prospect Post Office for many years and was a communicant of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Prospect. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a former member of the choir at St. Anthony’s, worked at the polls during the elections for many years, had a chair caning business, and was an avid history buff.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Germany during the Korean War.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Fowler is survived by two daughters, Susan Fowler and her husband Victor Stanwick of Staten Island, N.Y. and Jan DeCavage and Stan Popowski of Prospect; three sons, Thomas Fowler and Joy Marti of Nevada, Mark Fowler of New Hampshire and William and Andra Fowler of Watertown; three granddaughters, Jacquelyn, Rachel, and Suzanne; three grandsons, Ryan, Brett and Devin and one great granddaughter, Alaina.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Brady.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Burial with full military honors will be in Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the mass. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen, 327 Baldwin St., Waterbury, CT 06706.
