NAUGATUCK — Dorothy “Dottie” (Zibluk) Ann Evon, 79, of Naugatuck, a retired R.N., passed away on July 27, 2021, in her home with family and her beloved dog, Dixie, after her final battle with cancer.

Born on April 14, 1942, in Waterbury, she was the daughter of Anne (Kowalewski) and Harry Zibluk. Dottie was a lifelong resident of Naugatuck and wife of the late Jerry Evon for 43 years. Dot leaves behind her two daughters and their families: Donna Evon and son-in-law, Tom Wiltberger, and her beloved grandchildren, Ada and Max Wiltberger of Carrboro, N.C., and Denise Evon of Naugatuck and son-in-law, Joe Alexander Udayakumar. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Masiulis of Prospect. Dot was predeceased by her son, Gerald “Jay” Evon Jr. She was close with many nieces and nephews throughout the local area.

Dottie graduated from the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing in 1963 and worked as an R.N. intermittently over the years, retiring from Glendale Healthcare in Naugatuck after 20 years of service. She was very involved in raising her two daughters, who participated in Girl Scouts, dance and sports, beaming with joy as she watched. The family began camping in the 1970s and joined NAFCA, where they made lifelong friends throughout the New England area. She kept in touch with numerous friends from her childhood and young adult years. She enjoyed traveling and meeting folks at national Global & United Van Lines conferences with Jerry. In April of 1997, Dot donated a kidney to save her husband Jerry’s life, which gave them 12 more years together. Dottie loved gardening, music and dancing; especially dancing with Jerry at polka festivals held throughout New England.

After retirement, Dottie joined the Naugatuck Women’s Club, where she held leadership positions. She also enjoyed her Glendale Dinner Club with other retired nurse “sisters” and “brothers.” She enjoyed six decades of friendships and family memories at a family cottage in tranquil Harrisville, N.H. Dottie shared special bonds with her best friend, Judy Zhitomi, who walked by her side through three bouts of cancer; and her closest cousin, Betty Hurlbut, and favorite aunt, Sophie Zibluk. Dottie’s furry companions were the loves of her life and gave her strength in her later years. She is survived by Dixie, who will miss her dearly.

Her funeral will be on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Dottie’s life can be honored by donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or the Animal Rescue Foundation of Terryville.
