Obituary: Dorothy Clara (Hammond) Niquette

LARGO, Fla. — Dorothy Clara (Hammond) Niquette, 83, of Largo, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Albert M. Niquette.

Dorothy was born on March 23, 1929 in Burlington, Vt., a daughter of the late George and Leona (Charland) Hammond. She retired from the Seal Corporation of Naugatuck in 1990. She moved to Florida in 1990 and was a member of the Sunflowers Cancer Support Group of Gulf Coast Oncology, Paradise Island Rockettes, Red Hats, Mad Hatters and Red Hats R Us. She also worked as a volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Meals on Wheels. She was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Clearwater where she served as a Eucharistic minister.

She is survived by her sons, Craig M. (Barbara) of Waterbury, Lance A. (Claire) of Clearwater, Fla., Michael S. (Deborah) of Brewster, Mass., Randall J. (Margaret) of Southbury; her daughters, Karen L. (William) Whitcomb of Riverview, Fla., and Robin L. (Michael) Moscato of Beacon Falls; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her brothers, Donald (Blanche) Hammond of Virginia, Thomas (Jean) Hammond of Tennessee; her sister, Yvonne (Pete) Peterson of Shelton; and many, many friends.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Brenda J. Tanuis.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, Aug. 10 at 9 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck to St. Michael Church, 25 Maple Ave., Beacon Falls, for a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in the Queen of Peace Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery, East Main Street, Waterbury. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. with the Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Vincent de Paul Society.
