CHESHIRE — Dorothy Ann Rippel of Cheshire passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by her family on March 13, 2021.

Born and raised in Astoria, N.Y., and a graduate of William C. Bryant High School, she and her beloved husband of 62 years, Charles (Charlie) Rippel, began their married life on Long Island, N.Y., before making Connecticut their home for over 55 years. Longtime residents of Seymour and Southbury, they called Cheshire home for the last three years.

Dorothy was a stay-at-home mom while raising her family in Seymour. Once her children were in school, she returned to work and served many years with CL&P and Black & Decker before her much-deserved retirement. She and Charlie enjoyed many trips to Florida to visit friends and family. She loved to cook and bake. Her favorite thing to do, besides being with her family, was to gather for laughs and fun with her friends, especially the Tuesday Night “girls,” the East End Yacht Club gang, Immanuel’s Couples Club, the Oxford Senior Center and the Quaker Farms Fire House members. She was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Oxford before moving to Cheshire and attending Cheshire Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charlie, and her four grateful children, Janet Rippel of Naugatuck, Diane Kalentek (Joe) of Beacon Falls, Patricia Danielecki of New York City and Charles A. Rippel (Carolyn Buvel) of Hamden; as well as her two grandchildren, Alex and Olivia of Beacon Falls. She loved her family deeply and treasured her friendships.

A private memorial will be held for close family members with a celebration of Dorothy’s life planned for post-pandemic times when we can gather safely.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Oxford or Cheshire Lutheran Church or Connecticut Hospice.
