NAUGATUCK — Donald L. Mongillo, 83, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital on his 53rd wedding anniversary. He was husband of the late Eleanor D. (Smackey) Mongillo, who had passed away last Sunday. Mr. Mongillo was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
Donald was born in Bridgeport on Nov. 19, 1930, son of the late Anthony and Angelina (DellaRocco) Mongillo. He was a graduate of Central High School in Bridgport, and he had worked for the city of Bridgeport Board of Education until his retirement. He served his country with distinction in the United States Marine Corps.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Mongillo and his wife Jill (Anderson) Mongillo of Naugatuck, a sister-in-law, Thelma Leaffer; brothers-in-law, Bruce Smackey and John Capriotti; nieces, Marie Mastronardi, Judy Voynick and her husband George; and a nephew Tony Mongillo. Mr. Mongillo was predeceased by his brothers, Andrew and Nicholas Mongillo; and his sisters, Marion Capriotti and Josephine Costantini.
Graveside services for Donald and his wife Eleanor will be held on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 at 1 p.m. at State Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middeltown. Please meet directly at the cemetery chapel. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
