NAUGATUCK– Mrs. Claudette ‘Memere’ (Roy) Thornton, 72, of Cherry Street, Nauagtuck passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Saint Mary’s Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was the wife and best friend of James Thornton.
Mrs. Thornton was born in Fall River,  MA on December 26, 1938, a daughter of the late Armand J. Roy, Sr. and Irene (Audet) Roy.  She was a longtime Naugatuck resident and worked at several companies as a bookkeeper and office manager.  She enjoyed cooking and trips to the casino.
Besides her husband of 56 years, she leaves, two sons, Lee J. and Michael R. Thornton; three brothers, Armand J. Roy, Jr., Glorian and Paul Roy; three sisters, Estelle Woodruff, Claire Riccardi, and Muriel Pellerin; six grandchildren, Jonathan Thornton and his wife Krystal, Heather, Michael, Sarah, and Melissa Thornton; two great-grandchildren, twins Emily and Erin Thornton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a grandson Kevin Morine.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 7 at 10:30am at St. Vincent  Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck.
