NAUGATUCK — Mr. Charles E. “Bucky” Howard, 80, of Idleview Park, Naugatuck, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Howard was born in Ansonia on March 15, 1932, a son of the late Charles and Marion (Blackwood) Howard. He was a resident of Naugatuck since 1993 and was an U.S. Army veteran. He retired from the Street Department in Beacon Falls. He was a lifelong member of the Beacon Hose Company where he had served as past treasurer, a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge in Shelton. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, and golfing. He was an avid musician and singer. He was the founder of the Open Mic at the Thomaston Opera House.

He leaves two sons, Gary Howard and his wife Sue of Naugatuck, Robert Howard and
wife Lisa of Dayton, Ohio; a daughter, Lynne Simpson and her husband Bob of Derby;
nine grandchildren, a great-grandson; former wife and close friend, Jean (Buonocore) Howard; and his wonderful caregiver, Gladys Larby.

He was predeceased by a son, Edward Howard.

His funeral will be held on will be held on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will at the family’s convenience in Pines Bridge Cemetery, Beacon Falls.
