Obituary: Charles A. Gionet

PROSPECT – Mr. Charles A. Gionet, 65, of Prospect, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at the Saint Mary’s Hospital VITAS Hospice Unit in Waterbury. He was the husband for 25 years of Jennie (Streich) Gionet.

Mr. Gionet was born in Boston, Mass., on Feb. 5, 1947, a son of the late Edmond and Eloise (Gionet) Gionet. He attended Croft High School in Waterbury, worked for 42 years as a manufacturing engineer at Curtis Screw Co./Sheldon Plant in Prospect and was a communicant of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Prospect.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a tank mechanic with the 1st Cavalry in Korea. He was a life member and past commander of the VFW Post No. 8075 in Prospect and a member of the American Legion Post No. 88 in Hamden.

He enjoyed listening to oldies music, riding his Harley and being with family and friends.

Besides his wife, Mr. Gionet is survived by his son, Thomas Gionet of Prospect; two sisters, Elizabeth Thomas and Dorothy Gionet, both of Prospect; extended family member David Dugan of Prospect; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Claire Killian and five brothers, Edmond, William, Robert, Paul and Leonard.

Charles’ family would like to thank Dr. Kert Sabbath and his staff at the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center for their caring and compassion. Also, family friends Carol Codianni for being there with her love and Al Gordon for his steadfast friendship.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect.
