Catherine (Finateri) Cuccuru

NAUGATUCK — Catherine “Kay” (Finateri) Cuccuru, the widow of Costantino Cuccuru, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 97 surrounded by her loving family.

Kay was born on July 28, 1923, in Naugatuck, the fifth of six children born to the late Massimino and Mariantonnia (Ferrone) Finateri. A life-long resident of Naugatuck, Kay attended Naugatuck schools and retired after 37 years of service from the footwear division of Uniroyal, Inc. Kay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt who thoroughly loved spending time with her family. Kay loved to travel. She was extremely proud of her Italian heritage, and made many trips to Italy to visit her extended family there. She also enjoyed summer trips to the famous Pine Springs Resort, and numerous, fun-filled adventures to casinos near and far after getting her hair done by niece MaryAnn. At home, Kay was an amazing cook and was a loyal and devoted fan of the UConn women’s basketball team. Kay spent many years as a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Ladies Auxiliary and was a faithful, life-long parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church.

Kay is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and David Green; her son and daughter-in-law, John Cuccuru and Noella Doty; her grandchildren, Angela Flynn (Aaron), Jessica Cuccuru-Burgess (Brian), Katie Cuccuru, Olivia Green, Allison Green and David Green; her great-grandchildren, Patrick, Gianni, Kaylee, Karina and Addison; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Kay was predeceased by her brothers, Nunzio, Angelo and Dominic Finateri; and her sisters, Ann Laudate and Carmella “Millie” Cante.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
