NAUGATUCK — Carmen J. Gallo, 90, the husband of Rose (Sigetti) Gallo, died peacefully at home on June 30, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Carmen was born on March 25, 1929 in Derby, son of the late Frank and Mary (Morganelli) Gallo. He was a 1948 graduate of Derby High School and a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. Carmen was employed as a toolmaker and a Class A machinist at Avco Lycoming in Stratford, retiring after more than 40 years of service. Upon his retirement, he was a co-owner of B & G Sports Co. in Waterbury. For more than 50 years, he was a tireless volunteer at Peter J. Foley Little League and was responsible for obtaining the funds to install batting cages at both Peter J. Foley and Union City Little Leagues. To honor his work, the batting cage at Peter J. Foley Little League is affectionately named “Carmen’s Cage.” When not working or volunteering, Carm loved spending time with his family, playing golf and traveling.

In addition to Rose, his loving wife of 64 years, Carm is survived by his son, Thomas (Kimberly) Gallo; his daughter, Donna (Matthew) Brunyansky; his grandchildren, Sarah Gallo, Adam (Kim) Gallo, Justin (Christina) Brunyansky and Michael (Lindsay) Gallo; his great-grandchildren, Abigail and Lucy, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Carmen was predeceased by his brothers, Michael, Matthew, Fred and Francis Gallo, and his sister, Evelyn Williams.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 3 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Calling hours are Wednesday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble at the funeral home Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery.
