Carl Miele
NAUGATUCK – Mr. Carl J. Miele, 84, of Myrtle Avenue, Naugatuck, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 9, at Waterbury Hospital.
Mr. Miele was born in Hartford on April 15, 1926, a son of the late Anthony Miele, Sr. and Carmela (Palmieri) Miele. He was a lifelong Naugatuck resident and attended Groveside and Salem Grammar Schools, and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and New Haven College. He was a Navy veteran serving during World War II in the South Pacific and Atlantic Fleet on the destroyer

Carl was a former President of the Young Democrats and a member of the Democratic Town Committee for 33 years, serving as Chairman for 18 years. He was active in Naugatuck politics serving in many capacities including Burgess, Commissioner of the Finance and Charter Revision, Deputy Assessor, Borough Sheriff and Bailiff, and Justice of the Peace. He retired after 48 years from the Chemical Division of Uniroyal, Inc. where he worked as a Senior Laboratory Technician in Research and Development. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.

He leaves five children, Patricia A. Miele, Deborah J. Miele, Carl Michael Miele, and Brian Miele all of Waterbury, Donna Balchunas of Long Island, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Melony, Lauren, Melissa, Alana, Matthew, Emmy, Becky, and Patrick; a great-grandchild; a brother, James Miele of Naugatuck; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved fiancée Nancy Lou Brown of Wolcott. He was predeceased by his brothers, Peter, Albert, and Anthony Miele, Jr. and a sister, Dolores Morrissey.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, Jan. 14 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Burial with military honors followed in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck.
