NAUGATUCK — Antonio Pedro Lopes, 70, husband of Ana Jesuvina (Guerreiro) Lopes, died peacefully on Jan. 17, 2021, in the VITAS Hospice Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Antonio was born on June 1, 1950, in Obidos, Portugal, son of the late Manuel Goncalves Lopes and Irene Maria Lopes. Antonio worked for 21 years as a line mechanic at Peter Paul Hershey. He loved spending time playing with his grandchildren, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and fixing cars. Antonio was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and was a member of the Portuguese Sport Club.

In addition to Ana, his loving wife of 45 years, Antonio is survived by his sons, Pedro M. Lopes, Miguel P. Lopes and his wife, Diane L. Lopes, and Joao P. Lopes and his wife, Elizabete G. Lopes; his granddaughters, Natalia R. Lopes, Viviana L. Lopes, Adelina L. Lopes and Liliana P. Lopes, all of Naugatuck; his sister-in-law, Victoria Horta of Naugatuck; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ivone and Rui Teodoro of France; his sister-in-law, Emilia Ochoa of Portugal; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jose and Helena Guerreiro of Portugal; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Antonio’s family would like to sincerely thank all of the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, VITAS Hospice Care Unit and Smilow Cancer Center for the outstanding care and support that they provided.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury. Everyone is asked to please meet directly at church; wear a facial covering and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
