Andrea Lee (Lewis) Ramirez

NAUGATUCK — Andrea Lee (Lewis) Ramirez, 51, of Naugatuck, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the wife of Alejandro “Alex” Ramirez and the loving mother of Alexys “Lexi” Paige Ramirez and Christopher “Chris” Anthony Ramirez.

She was born in New Haven, Jan. 14, 1970, a daughter of Linda T. (Lake) Lewis and her husband, the late F. Woodward Lewis Jr., who raised her in Wallingford, and Robert A. Michna of California.

Andrea graduated from Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford and went on to get her R.N. from Capital Community College in Hartford and her Bachelor of Science from Chamberlain College of Nursing. Prior to being employed by Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc., she spent many years in the cardiac emergency room of St. Raphael’s Hospital and ConnectiCare Insurance Company. She was an active member of her community in Naugatuck, particularly with her children’s athletic activities in dance, cheerleading, swimming, baseball and soccer.

Andrea did extraordinary work in her role as a case manager at Alexion, helping to connect families of children with rare diseases to resources to receive access to potentially lifesaving treatments. Andrea advocated relentlessly for Metabolics patients. She had a personal mission to ensure that living with a rare disease was only a piece of patients’ lives, and did not define their lives. Andrea’s work at Alexion made a lasting impact to the patient community and to those on her team. She was an absolute beacon of hope for patients during challenging times. She was beloved by her co-workers and all of her patients.

Andrea will be remembered as someone who always put others first and looked for ways to help those in need. She had a caring and empathetic nature and she inspired those around her.

Andrea will also be deeply missed by her loving sisters, Davida L. Krystanowicz (Richard) of Southington, Willow Elizabeth Lake (Timothy McGuire) of W. Suffield and Katherine Eunicemarie Lewis (A.J. Carrasco) of New York, N.Y.; her brother, Eric W. Lewis (Christina Branco); and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, on Monday, June 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. directly at Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 N. Colony St., Wallingford. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to one of the following organizations: (1) Peter J. Foley Little League; (2) Dance Attitude; or (3) the National Organization for Rare Diseases, c/o Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, CT 06492 (wallingfordfh.com).
