MIDDLEBURY — Alfred J. Mormile, 83, beloved husband of the late Gloria Jean (Nigri) Mormile, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Derby on April 10, 1938, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Catherine (Magnamo) Mormile. Al resided in Middlebury with his family since 1960. He owned and operated the Corner Barber Shop in Naugatuck for many years. He was a proud veteran of the United States
Army.

Al loved the beach and the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman, sailor and golfer. He enjoyed target and skeet shooting. He played basketball and baseball during his youth, and enjoyed watching his grandson, John Paul, “aka the shooter,” play basketball more recently. Al enjoyed vacationing with his family in Narragansett and Florida for many years. He was also an excellent mechanic who could fix anything.

Al leaves his three daughters and their spouses, Maria Mormile-Mehler and Brad Mehler of West Hartford, Angela Chagnon and Don Chagnon of Meriden, and Tracie and George Paiva of Milford; one grandson, John Paul Paiva; his brothers, Ronald F. Mormile and his wife, Joan, and Michael R. Mormile of Naugatuck.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, (on Alfred and Gloria’s wedding anniversary) at 10 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Church, 1263 West St., Middlebury. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will meet on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
