WATERTOWN — Maria Da Luz Alho, 103, widow of Joao B. Alho, died peacefully on April 28, 2023 at Trinity Terraces in Watertown surrounded by her loving family.

Maria was born on Feb. 12, 1920 in Monte Murtosa, Portugal, a daughter of the late Antonio Lopes and Maria Dos Prazeres Tavares. She moved to the United States in 1944 and became a U.S. citizen. Maria lived in Naugatuck for most of her life and for the past 20 years she lived in Watertown.

She was a faithful and founding parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a member of the Rosary Society. Maria was a former member of the Clube Uniao Portuguesa Ladies Auxiliary.

Maria is survived by her children, son and daughter-in-law, John and Carol Alho; daughters, Mary Semeraro and Linda Tigeleiro; grandchildren, Pasquale Semeraro, Ann Marie Semeraro, Antonio Semeraro, Timothy Tigeleiro and Steven Brownell; great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Marie Tigeleiro, Isaac Semeraro, Margot Semeraro, Emily Brownell; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Maria was predeceased by her son, U.S. Air Force Sgt. Antonio Lopes Alho, who was killed in action in Vietnam; and also by her four brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated Tuesday, May 2, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Everyone attending was kindly asked to please meet at church. Burial was to follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours were to be Monday, May 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
