NAUGATUCK — Larry A. Albaitis, 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born in Waterbury on Jan. 8, 1947, son of the late William and Vera (Markham) Albaitis. Larry graduated from Naugatuck High School and attended college. He owned his own general contracting company, which was his career until his retirement.

Born and raised in Naugatuck, he was a proud lifelong resident and formed many lasting relationships within his community.

Larry was the epitome of his endearing established nickname, “Larry Bear” to all those who loved him. He was big, strong and the rock of his family, yet warm, kind and playful inside. If you were in Larry’s presence, you were sure to leave with a smile and of course a good “Dad Joke.”

He loved to laugh and had his wife, Debi, and daughter Lauren, always smiling or rolling their eyes keeping up with his silly antics.

Larry was also known as “Captain Larry,” a title he earned for being captain of his fishing boat that he enjoyed for many years on the Rhode Island shore. His love of the ocean and being on the water was something he loved to share with his family.

Larry also enjoyed road trips with his best friend and brother-in-law, Frank, aka “Buzzy,” while listening to Patsy Cline, Sade and all his jazz favorites.

Larry was also a very proud “Grandpa” to his twin grandnieces, Elizabeth and Lilly Murray, daughters to his niece and nephew, Krystle and Christopher Murray. Being “Grandpa” brought him so much joy and happiness.

Larry leaves behind his devoted wife of 37 years, Debi, his pride and joy, daughter Lauren Albaitis Conigliaro, both of Naugatuck; his goddaughter, Chanel Curtin of Manchester; along with many additional nieces and nephews whom were all very loved.

In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his three brothers, William Albaitis, Ronald Albaitis and Marty Albaitis.

A Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Calling hours were to be Tuesday morning, Dec. 20, from 9 to 10:30 at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.

Donations to honor Larry’s memory are requested to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
