WATERBURY — John D. Cianciolo, 87, of Waterbury passed away peacefully at Saint Mary’s Hospital. He was born in Waterbury on April 17, 1935, a son of the late Domenico (John) Cianciolo and Rose (Simone) Cianciolo.

John spent his working years in Manhattan as the owner and operator of two floral shops, Parish Woodworth and later Flowers, Flowers, Inc. His floral work graced many esteemed businesses and celebrity homes throughout New York City. A lover of the arts, John appreciated living in the city and having the proximity of magnificent culture at his disposal. A frequent supporter of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Opera House, and Broadway, he enjoyed all aspects of the fine arts. John returned to Waterbury to be closer to his family and it has been where he has lived for the past thirty years. John’s family was incredibly important to him and he cherished the time he spent and the memories he made with them, especially around the holidays and helping out at the family’s business, John’s Apizza.

John is survived by his brother Donald D. Cianciolo and his wife, Domenica; and his brother, Gerald M. Cianciolo of Waterbury. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, as listed by family, his niece, Mary Ann Gaudiosi and her son, Guy, and his fiance, Anthony; his nephew, Dominic Cianciolo and his wife, Joan, and their children, Caralyn and Dominic; his niece, Carla Veturis and her husband, Joseph, and their children, Joseph and his wife, Stephanie, and their children Valerie, Thor, and Titus, Anthony and his wife, Bridget, Lorin and her partner, Vinny, and Marc; his nephew, Donald R. Cianciolo and his wife, Kelly, and their children, Donald Jr. and Devin; and his niece, Theresa Cianciolo and her wife, Roberta, and their son, Ethan.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 309 South Main St., Waterbury. All those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at church. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, where John will be laid to rest next to his parents. Prospect Memorial/ the Palmerie Family Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family.
