Joan S. VanderEyk, 77, of Fort Pierce and formerly of Prospect, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, April 14, 2022, at Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce Florida after a cerebral stroke and hemorrhage. She was passed from the loving presence of her husband and two longtime nursing friends to the loving arms of her Savior. Joan was the devoted wife and best friend of James VanderEyk for 50 years.

She was born in Waterbury on Sep. 6, 1944, the daughter of the late Robert P. and Elizabeth (Brick) Seastrand. Joan graduated from Russell School, Wilby High School, Saint Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing and Regents College where she earned her Associate Degree in nursing. She was an R.N. at Saint Mary’s Hospital on O’Brien 4 for 42 years. She retired in 2009.

Joan will be remembered for her very caring personality, warm friendly smile and heartfelt laughter. She enjoyed playing golf, card games and dominoes. She was a devoted UConn women’s basketball fan and was so excited to have attended a few final four tournaments.

She was also a Red Sox and Minnesota Vikings fan.

She is survived by her husband Jim of over 50 years; sister-in-law, Nancy-Lou VanderEyk of Prospect; nephew, Matt VanderEyk and his two daughters, as well as a myriad of cousins, nieces and nephews and their children.

A Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Burial will immediately follow at Prospect Cemetery. All those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dyslexia Center of Connecticut, 529 Highland Ave., Waterbury, CT 06708.
