NAUGATUCK — Jaime DaSilva passed away on Dec. 29, 2022, after a brief illness. Jaime was 64 and died at home surrounded by the love and care of his wife Ana “Luci” and family.

Born in Portugal on Feb. 19, 1958, the son of Maria Da Silva and the late Julio Da Silva, Jaime spent his first 12 years in Portugal before moving to the United States. He graduated from Emmett O’Brien Technical High School and then went on to earn his associate degree in electrical engineering from Waterbury State Technical College.

An engineer by trade and a “MacGyver” by choice, Jaime followed his passion and took his first job at a postage mailing company in Shelton, which later became Quadient Mailing Solutions. He loved his work and remained loyal to that same company for 44 years.

Even in his last weeks of life he found solace in his work, always enjoying his special talent for solving problems. During those 44 years Jaime developed a patent and became a QA manager in engineering.

Jaime’s love and pride for his home country was apparent in all the time and efforts he gave to the C.U.P. of Naugatuck. There he as a pillar to his community; Jaime held many titles throughout the years, his final being, financial secretary. Jaime fiercely spearheaded the “Save the Portuguese Club of Naugatuck Fundraiser,” and he was the chairman of the Sao Paio Committee. Jaime’s free time was spent there among friends.

Jaime was passionate about life. He always lived by the motto seize the day. After receiving a kidney transplant at a young age, Jaime always seized the day traveling the world seeking adventures with his family and friends.

Jaime was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and a friend to many. He loved cars, soccer, playing cards, music, dancing and food. He was loving, humble, kind, competitive, funny, and wise.

Besides his wife Ana “Luci” (Sapata) DaSilva of 39 years and his mother Maria Da Silva of Naugatuck, Jaime is survived by his daughter, Stephanie DaSilva Levinsky and her husband Don, of Beacon Falls, daughter Tara (DaSilva) Croce and her husband Anthony, of Monroe; grandchildren, Dominic, Natalie, and Adriana; brother, Joaquim DaSilva of Naugatuck; sister and brother-in-law, Carolina and Carlos Coelho, sister and brother-in-law, Maria Julia and Artur Mariano of Union, N.J.; brother and sister-in-law, Carlos and Raquel DaSilva of Newton, N.J.; sister-in-law, Dolores DaSilva of Southbury; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, he was predeceased by his brother Julio DaSilva; grandmother Carolina Eusebia de Pinho.

Anyone who knew him, he made you feel like a part of his family from the moment you met him. His warmth and hospitality were unmatched and he will be truly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated Wednesday, Jan.4, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury. Everyone attending was kindly asked to please meet directly at church. Burial was to follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours were to be Tuesday, Jan. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
