NAUGATUCK — Florence Cassidy, of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2023, just one month shy of her 100th birthday. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Bernie, who passed away at age 100, just four months ago. Florence and Bernie had been married for 78 years.

Florence was born on June 8, 1923, and was a lifelong resident of Naugatuck. She was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Gertrude Sweeney, and her sister Gertrude Ebersole.

Florence was proud of her multigenerational roots in Naugatuck and had a wonderful life there, filled with the love of family and many friends. She graduated from Naugatuck High School in the class of 1940, where she met the love of her life, Bernie.

Florence and Bernie were married in 1944 and had three children. Florence took great joy in being a homemaker and did it well. She was always there for her children, greeting them home from school with freshly baked cookies, cold milk, and a warm hug.

Florence was active in the Naugatuck Garden Club, numerous bridge clubs, and had a wide circle of friends. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint and cooking. Florence had a wonderful sense of humor that she shared with all she met.

Florence leaves cherished memories to be fondly remembered by her three children, Kevin Cassidy of Anchorage, Alaska, Laureen Treu and husband Herb of Southbury, Brian Cassidy and wife Sherri of Litchfield; granddaughters, Lauren Gardner of Auckland, New Zealand, and Kristin Cassidy of Naugatuck; and nephew Scott Ebersole and wife Nancy, of Colchester.

Funeral services and committal in St. James Cemetery were to be at the convenience of the family and there were to be no calling hours. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck is assisting with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck, CT 06770.
