PROSPECT – Eve Rozum Smith, 90, of Prospect, passed away peacefully while surrounded by the love of her family at Saint Mary’s Hospital on Monday, Aug. 8, 2022. She was the widow of the late Louis Smith. Born at home in Prospect, on July 22,1932, Eve was the youngest of eight children of the late Thomas and Florence (Swigar) Rozum.
Eve lived in Prospect her entire life. She graduated from Leavenworth High School, which was an important accomplishment for women of that era.
Many Prospect natives may remember her smiling face as a cafeteria assistant for Algonquin School. At one time, Eve was an assistant to the voting registrar. After retirement she enjoyed many activities at the Prospect Senior Center. Eve had been a member of the St. Anthony’s Ladies Guild as well as the American Legion Auxiliary Post 194.
Eve brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. She always had a joke ready for friends at their breakfast gatherings. Eve was the center of her large family, her legacy of humor, joy and love will be treasured.
Eve is survived by her children, Lori Bannon of Waterbury, Terri Petito of Plantsville; son, Randy (Shelly) Smith of Thomaston and Sandra (Louis) Elmy of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., as well as her nine grandchildren. From oldest to youngest, they are Brandon, Brooke, Matthew, Lauren, Lara, Paige, Julia, Skylar and Gabrielle. Eve was also blessed with five great-grandchildren. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and wonderful friends.
Her family was the center of her life.
In addition to her husband, Eve was predeceased by her siblings, Andrew and Alex Rozum, Mary Baker, Julia Wislocki, Irene Rigon, Helen Charron and Ann Stotz, and her grandson, Andrew LaChance.
A funeral Mass for Eve was at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect.
