PROSPECT — Douglas G. Schnerr, 65, of Prospect, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by the love of his family, at Hartford Hospital on Thursday, March 16, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Lori (Kimmer) Schnerr for almost 40 years.
Doug was born on July 31, 1957 in Waterbury, and was the son of the late Harold and Mary (Baker) Schnerr. Doug graduated from Kaynor Technical High School and went on to work for many years at Ingersoll Saturn as an auto technician.
Doug was a “Mr. Fix It.” He could fix anything without YouTube or video instructions. He was a hands-on kind, very bright man. Doug’s lawn was a showpiece, meticulously maintained with pride. He enjoyed his Harley motorcycle, NASCAR and was a drag racer in his early 20s.
Family was Doug’s primary focus. Every year Doug, his wife Lori and their two kids, Eric and Kylene, would go skiing at Sugarloaf. Many happy memories were made on a pair of skis, whether on snow or water. They enjoyed dinners out, boating and skiing.
Doug loved his family. He was a proud and devoted husband, Dad and very proud Papa.
Doug leaves to cherish his love and memory, besides his wife Lori, his daughter Kylene LaFortune and her husband Mark, of Oxford, his precious granddaughter Reese LaFortune; and his son Eric and his wife Elena, of Middletown. He also leaves his sister Doreen Cocchiola and her husband Robert, of South Carolina; as well as his aunt Marjorie “Jeri” Schnerr and many friends.
Visitation was to be on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Road, Prospect. A celebration of life service was to immediately follow at 6:30 p.m.
Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home is honored to assist and care for the Schnerr family during this very painful time.
