NAUGATUCK — Dorothy (Dot) Gliford, 79, died Saturday, April 8, 2023, at River Glen in Southbury.
Dot was born in Hartford on April 14, 1943, daughter of the late Dora and Galen Groves. She grew up in Southbury and attended Southbury schools.
Dot retired from the Southbury Training School where she worked for more than 20 years. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, painting and line dancing. She was an avid Yankees fan and loved Derek Jeter.
Dot was married to the late Arthur Gliford for more than 30 years; they enjoyed cruises, gardening, family gatherings and making people laugh.
Her survivors include her sons Richard Zavednak (Dawn), Jim Zavednak (Val); three grandchildren, Zachary Zavednak, Courtney Zavednak-Bochicchio, Alyssa Zavednak; and one great-grandchild Joey; her four sisters, Mariette Bardelli, Kathy Gillotti, Chris Rivers, Jean Baran; and her beloved poodle Bree.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters Gale and Mary Groves, and her brother Jim Groves.
A memorial gathering was to be on Thursday, April 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North. Burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.
