NAUGATUCK — Barbara (Gemino) Kane, 90, passed away on April 27, 2023, at the Middlebury Convalescent Home.

Barbara was born in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Carl and Linda (Sandulli) Gemino. She was a graduate of Crosby High School and Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing. During her beloved nursing career, she worked at Saint Mary’s Hospital and Middlebury Convalescent Home as a nursing supervisor.

Barbara had a beautiful spirit that drew many friends. She was involved in St. Mary’s Altar Society, Naugatuck Senior Center and was an instructor at the Naugatuck YMCA senior swim classes.

Barbara was married to the late John “Jack” Kane of Naugatuck, where they made their life together. Together they had three children and her family was her entire world.

Barbara leaves two children, a son, Michael Kane and his wife Lisa Kane, of Westerly, R.I., and a daughter, Nancy Fornito of Naugatuck and her partner, Joe Rossetti; a sister, Carolyn Caulfield of Waterbury; a brother, Carl Gemino and his wife June Gemino, of Wolcott; her six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Barbara was predeceased by her son, John “Jack” Kane Jr.; her sister, Colette Markowich and her longtime companion, Mike Sabia.

Barbara’s family would like to say a special thank you to the entire staff at Middlebury Convalescent Home and VITAS Hospice Care. Their compassion and care for her was unsurpassed.

A Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated Wednesday, May 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Everyone attending was kindly asked to please meet directly at church. Burial was to follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. There were no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.

In lieu of flowers and to honor Barbara’s memory, contributions are requested to the Resident Council Fund, Middlebury Convalescent Home, 778 Middlebury Road, Middlebury, CT 06762.
