NAUGATUCK — Anthony Edward Bosse Jr., 82, of Naugatuck, died peacefully on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer.

Anthony, known to many as “Red,” was born on Sept. 17, 1940, in New Haven to the late Anthony Sr. and Amelia (DeCarlo) Bosse. He grew up in West Haven with one younger brother and once got hung out of the school window by his ankles.

He graduated from West Haven High in 1958. Anthony forewent college, despite his father’s wishes, and began a lifelong career in manufacturing. Anthony also completed basic training for the Army and returned home to serve in the National Guard.

Anthony began watching his boyhood hero Vic Janowicz and Ohio State football at the age of 10; he cheered for the Buckeyes until the end. A perpetual bachelor, Anthony loved cars and motorcycles. He proudly spoke of his time as a privateer drag racer and taking his motorcycles thousands of miles across the United States and Canada, numerous times.

Even as his own mother began to lose hope, Anthony met Linda Graham in April 1975, and they married on April 24, 1976. They lived in Ansonia before buying their prized Victorian in Naugatuck.

Their life was full of collecting American-made Depression-era glass and quickly began filling the home, even after the arrival of their two children. Anthony served as the president of the Nutmeg Depression Glass Club of Connecticut and developed strong friendships that would last for decades to come.

Despite playing basketball as a kid, Anthony would proudly tell most anyone that he refereed soccer until he was 60 years old.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; children Dr. Victoria Bosse (Jeremy Moran) of Middlebury and Joseph (Christa) Bosse of Naugatuck; grandchildren Ezra and Piper Lou Bosse of Naugatuck, and Graham Moran of Middlebury; brother Robert (Suzanne) Bosse of West Haven; as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The family would also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Naugatuck police, Naugatuck Ambulance, and numerous staff at Saint Mary’s Hospital and VITAS for their care of Anthony and his family over the past two weeks.

Family and friends were invited to attend a service to honor Anthony’s life on Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, 4:15 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT 06708. Calling hours were to be from 2 to 4 p.m., with a service to immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Anthony’s memory to The Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org.
