NAUGATUCK — Abilio Dos Santos Simoes, 79, died peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maria Fernsnda (Antunes) Simoes.
Abilio was born in Freixianda, Portugal, on April 30, 1943, son of the late Felizardo and Maria (Simoes) Simoes.
Abilio worked as welder at Ansonia Copper & Brass until his retirement. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church. He was a member of the Waterbury Portuguese Sport Club.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family. He especially loved attending his grandsons’ ball games and taking them fishing.
In addition to his wife, Abilio is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Ann Simoes of Naugatuck; daughter and son-in-law Sylvie Simoes and Carlos Sousa of Milford; grandsons Mitchell Sousa, Gabriel Sousa and Eli Simoes; brother and sister-in-law Fernando and Jacinta Simoes of Prospect; and sister Alice Antunes and sister-in-law Gracinda Simoes, both of Portugal.
He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Jose and Rosa Simoes; his brother Vitalino Simoes; and his brother-in-law Diamantino Antunes.
Funeral was to leave Naugatuck Valley Memorial/ Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 N. Main St., Naugatuck, Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, at 10:30 a.m for Our Lady of Fatima Church in Waterbury for Mass at 11 a.m.
Burial was to follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Friends were to visit with the family at the funeral home from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
