Elizabeth “Betty” Chadwick, 90, beloved wife of Arthur Chadwick, passed away quietly today, Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, in the long-term care unit of the River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury. Born in Carbondale, Pa., April 8, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Augusta (Smith) Derrick. She was employed by the Perkin Elmer Co. in Norwalk for over 25 years, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion, Unit 174, Oxford, and a long-time communicate of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Seymour.

Besides her husband of 35 years, Betty leaves a cherished daughter, Linda and her husband, Richard Giggey, of Cape Coral, Fla., and three granddaughters, Dawn and her husband, Al Van Lew, of North Fort Myers, Fla., Michele and her significant other, Fred Fries, of Cape Coral, Fla., and Tracy and her husband, David Alejandro, of Naugatuck. She also leaves a brother, Robert Derrick and his wife, Shirley, of Waymart, Pa., as well as many nieces and nephews, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She was predeceased by two sisters, Gert Michko and her husband, Augie, and Gussie Kovaleski; and a brother, Gerald Derrick and his wife, Helen.
Betty enjoyed country music and had an eight track collection of many, many stars of the time. She loved gardening and getting her hands dirty. She did many pictures puzzles and crocheted lots of afghans. Her greatest enjoyment however, was preparing a holiday feast for her family. The meals were often and superb.

A funeral service in celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at 9 a.m. in the Chapel of the Miller Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St., Seymour, (opposite Klarides’ Village). Calling hour at the funeral home Wednesday 8 to 9 a.m. Interment in the family plot at Southford Cemetery, Oxford, will follow the service.

Memorial gifts in Betty’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through the funeral home.
