Concetta (Caporaso) Ruccio

NAUGATUCK — Concetta “Tina” (Caporaso) Ruccio, 95, beloved wife of the late Robert E. Ruccio, passed away at home after a brief illness on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

Tina was born March 16, 1924 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Peter and Philomena (Forgione) Caporaso. Her parents arrived into the U.S. in 1922 from Vitulano, Italy. Tina was raised in a traditional Italian family. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and Post Junior College with an associate’s degree, and then worked for the United Way of Waterbury. She married in 1948 and five years later began her own family. Tina was devoted to raising her three children, and once they were grown, she worked for the Charles E. Aquavia Insurance Agency, Servicemaster and went on to obtain her real estate license, and worked for the Henry Kogut Agency, where she loved being a real estate agent.

Tina was a member and past president of the Glendale Manor Community Club, founding member of St. Vincent Ferrer Church and was active in their Ladies Guild for many years. She enjoyed the many friends she made there. Tina cherished her neighborhood friends, was an exceptional cook (best apple pie and lasagna ever!), a talented seamstress — a skill she learned from her mother, enjoyed reading, tending to her flower gardens and especially loved sitting out on her porch. Tina and her husband, Bob, enjoyed many summer vacations in Dennis, Cape Cod with their children along with Tina’s brother, Al, and sister, Lydia, and their families, as well as Don House and his family.

Tina’s family is thankful for the devoted care she received from her loving caregivers, Alice, Avery, Jacqui, Kiarra, Kathy and Marva. Her family wishes to express their deepest thanks and gratitude for the compassionate care that Vitas Hospice provided in her final days.

Tina was the loving wife of the late Robert E. Ruccio, who died in 2011. They had been happily married for 63 years. She is survived by a son, Paul M. Ruccio of Waterbury; a daughter, Roberta Buckmiller and her husband, Terry, of Naugatuck; daughter-in-law, Pamela G. Ruccio of Naugatuck; two granddaughters, Erin Ruccio of Waterbury and Ashley Hagedorn and her husband, Carl, of Naugatuck, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Mark E. Ruccio; grandson, Josh Ruccio; brother, Alessio Caporaso, and sister, Lydia Ruccio.
Tina’s passion was for her family whom she loved dearly. She cherished her family and friends, always greeting them with her beautiful smile. Her love of life made her a joy to spend time with. Tina had so many wonderful years and gave us all something to smile about. We will miss her so much.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, Sept. 9, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harold Leever Regional Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT 06708 or to St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
