WATERBURY — Claire S. (Saucier) Johnson, 96, of Judith Lane, the widow of John William Johnson Jr., died peacefully on Sept. 27, 2019 in the VITAS Innovative Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by loving family.

Claire was born on May 30, 1923 in New Brunswick, Canada, a daughter of the late Fortunat and Estelle (Baker) Saucier. Claire retired after working many years at Scovill Manufacturing, U.S. Rubber and Benrus. Claire enjoyed taking care of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cleaning and family.

Claire is survived by her daughters, Lillian Johnson, Eleanor Johnson, Beatrice Johnson, Maryellen Cuatt, Theresa Johnson and Barbara Johnson; her son, John W. Johnson III “Tiger Bill;” her 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Rita LeBrun, Theresa Dotson and Gladys Saucier, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Claire was predeceased by her four brothers and one sister.

Claire’s family would like to thank everyone on the 3rd and 7th floors and in the VITAS Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital for the wonderful care that they provided.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Anne, 515 South Main St., Waterbury. Everyone is kindly asked to meet at church. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours, and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to honor Claire’s memory can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
