Linden K. Baummer

NAUGATUCK — Linden K. Baummer, 94, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019 at Beacon Brook Health Center surrounded by his loving family.

Linden leaves his wife of 70 years with whom he was inseparable, Lucille (Harper) Baummer; his daughter, Diane Baummer; his four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Leslie Sporre, husband, Ian, and sons, Ryker and Kaven; Jennifer Genthe, son Trevor, and daughter Ashtyn; Kimberly Michael, husband, Shannon, and sons, Brayden and Riley; and Lyndsey Brenes, husband, Robert, and sons, JJ, Tyson and Ethan.

Born June 11, 1925 in Naugatuck, the son of Edward and Irene, he was a lifelong resident of Naugatuck.

In his early years, Linden worked as a lifeguard at Baummer’s Pond owned by the Baummer family. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy from May 1943 through October 1945 on the USS Miami. He served in the Philippine Islands, Iwo Jima and Okinawa during World War II.

After serving as an electrician in the Navy, Linden worked for 43 years at Uniroyal Chemical. He was hard-working, humble, meticulous, and was always up for a good laugh with his buddies. A self-taught musician, he could play six instruments, and also enjoyed building and fixing things in his home workshop, going out to lunch and traveling to the casino with his wife, teaching his grandchildren to ride their bikes, helping with science projects, building the coolest “slip and slide” ever, and cracking others up with his sense of humor. A devoted husband, father, “Grampy,” “Popi,” uncle, cousin and friend, Linden will truly be missed.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble at the funeral home Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. A funeral service will immediately follow. Burial will be private.
