WATERBURY — Gregory B. “Gribbs” Adam, 64, husband of Penny Benson, died peacefully on July 29, 2019 in the VITAS Innovative Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital.

“Gribbs” has gone to the fisherman’s heaven looking for the next great tuna. Penny was at his side, as she has been for the last 30 years. “Gribbs” and Penny dealt with life’s trials, tribulations and happy times, always together and always so very much in love.

Greg was born on May 5, 1955, a son of the late Archie and Claire (Berg) Adam, and he was a self-employed manufacturer and a part-time tuna fisherman.

In addition to his loving wife, Penny, he leaves his brother, Archie Adam and dear friend, Bonnie, and their daughters, Nicole and Kaitlyn; brother-in-law, David Benson (Nancy) and their daughters, Jenna and Rachel; sisters-in-law, Martha Stark (Thomas) and their daughter, Hester, Becky Benson, Melissa Alexander (Ken) and their son, Matthew; his devoted friends, Richie Boiano and wife, Georgette, Pete Rymut, Chris Carroll, Scott Tessier, Sue Sheperd, Cal Borg, Roseanne Coffey and Steven Smead; awesome neighbors, Lois Rizzuti and Jeff Scott, Steve and Line Johnson, Veronica and Johnny Morales and their children, Marco, Yammy and Sophia; Marizel Torres, Jazzy Cotto, Joshua Torres and Edwin Cotto; Bob and Jan Dwyer, Erin and Bobby and Cal Borg. Greg was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Gloria Benson; and his friend, Dennis Cosgrove.

A sincere thank you to everyone at VITAS at St. Mary’s Hospital, especially volunteers Joe and Gloria, Grace McKenna, Dr. Tsao, Dr. Chua, Dr. Jaga and “Grace’s Angels,” who disguised as nurses, made Greg comfortable and pain free during his last days on this earth.

All services will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.

In lieu of flowers and to honor Greg’s memory, contributions can be made to the VITAS Innovative Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital, 56 Franklin St., Waterbury, CT 06706.
