NAUGATUCK — Rosa Costa, 88, died peacefully on July 17, 2019 at Glendale Center with her loving family by her side.
Rosa was born April 15, 1931 in Vila Franca de Xira, Portugal, a daughter of the late Pedro and Joana Caneira. She had lived in Naugatuck for the past 45 years, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Clube Uniao Portuguesa. Rosa retired from St. Mary’s Hospital, where she had worked in the laundry department for 22 years. Rosa loved to travel and dance, spending some of her younger years singing fados with friends. She especially loved spending her later years playing with her grandchildren and then her great grandchildren.
Rosa is survived by her daughter, Ana Simoes; her grandsons, Carlos Simoes and his wife, Laura Simoes, and Mark Simoes; her great-grandchildren, Chloe Simoes and Tyler Simoes, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Rosa was predeceased by her son-in-law, Antonio Simoes; her sisters, Virginia Costa, Luisa Rodrigues and Natalia Guerreiro, and her brother, Raul Caneira.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 23 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Everyone attending is asked to please meet directly at church. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours, and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
