Joseph A. Conroy Sr.

NAUGATUCK — Joseph A. Conroy Sr., 77, husband of Janet (Gallagher) Conroy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Yale New Haven Hospital.

He was born in Waterbury on June 13, 1942, son of the late William and Mary (Roberts) Conroy. Joe was a longtime resident of Naugatuck, and had worked as an electrician for Union Local 660 in Waterbury and Local 488 in Bridgeport until his retirement. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Church for many years, a member and stage manager for the Kollege Kapers, and a volunteer for Americare. He was also an avid golfer and worked at Hop Brook Golf Course after his retirement.

Besides his loving wife Janet of 52 years, Joe is survived by his daughter, Constance Conroy of Naugatuck; his brother, William Conroy Jr. of Woodbury; his four nieces, Mary Beth and her husband, Lou, Kimberly and her husband, Paul, Kathleen and her husband, Jim, and Rhonda and her husband, Robert; many nieces and nephews, and one great-great-niece; and several other relatives, including his special cousin, Rita Bendler. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph A. Conroy Jr., and his sister, Mary Elizabeth Baker and her husband, Ronald.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 338 North Main St., Naugatuck. Those attending are asked to please meet at the church at 9:45 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck.
