NAUGATUCK — Arnold E. “Babe” Nori, 95, husband of the late Catherine T. Nori for 72 years, died peacefully on June 7, 2019 at his home.

Babe was born on October 8, 1923 in Derby, a son of the late Arnoldo E. and Stella (Tombari) Nori, and had lived in Naugatuck all of his life. With his sister Lee, he owned and operated Nori’s Market on South Main Street in Naugatuck for many years. He was a retired employee of Uniroyal, Inc. and Eclipse Glass. He was a proud World War II United States Navy veteran, having spent over 30 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve, retiring with the rank of chief petty officer. Babe loved to cook and was known for his delicious lasagna, pizza and homemade Italian sausage. He and Catherine enjoyed traveling extensively, both domestically and abroad. He enjoyed creating and teaching stained glass art and working as an amateur archeologist assisting on area digs. An avid reader, he had a special interest in Native American culture and history.

Babe is survived by his daughters, Anita Nori and Mary Lynn Shirshac and her husband, Steve; his sister, Lee Blanchard; his brother, Dr. John Nori and his wife, Nancy, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife and his parents, Arnold was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Ann Nori.

Babe’s family would like to thank their family, neighbors and friends, and especially Alcina, Deborah, Ede-Jo, Paul, Wendy and the staffs of VITAS Hospice and Acuity Homecare for all the support and comfort they provided.

Calling hours are Thursday, June 13, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble at the funeral home Thursday at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Everyone attending is kindly asked to meet at the church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery.
