Eileen Agnes (McCarthy) McDonald

MIDDLEBURY — Eileen Agnes (McCarthy) McDonald, 76, widow of Paul T. McDonald, passed away peacefully at Cheshire House on Monday, May 13, 2019.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 4, 1943, daughter of the late Pierce J. and Mary (Grogan) McCarthy. Eileen was a graduate of College of the Sacred Heart in Newton, Mass., and received a master’s degree in education from Fairfield University and a master’s degree in social work from Southern Connecticut State University. She was an elementary school teacher most of her life, and retired from Clifford Beers Clinic in West Haven. After retirement, Eileen volunteered at Children’s Community School in Waterbury, and spent many summers at Camp Tegawitha in the Poconos. She was a longtime resident of Middlebury and was a communicant of St. John of the Cross Church and a devoted choir member for decades. She loved to shop and Talbots and Stew Leonards in Danbury.

Eileen is survived by her son, Robert McDonald and his wife, Vieng, and their son, Johnny Paditsone; her sister, Kathleen Hake and her husband, William; several nieces, nephews, close friends, and the entire McDonald family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury. Those attending are asked to please meet at the church at 11:15 a.m. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck.
