NAUGATUCK — Walter E. O’Bernier Jr., 61, passed away unexpectedly April 13, 2019. He was the husband of Susan (Posh) O’Bernier, his wife of 22 years.
Walter was born in Waterbury June 14, 1957, son of the late Walter E. and Clair (Lynch) O’Bernier Sr. He was employed as a carpenter at Southbury Training School for 30 years, and had been living the joys of retirement. He was a longtime resident of Naugatuck. He enjoyed police radios, fire department memorabilia, yard work and technical challenges.
Besides his wife, Walter is survived by a stepdaughter, Liza Duart-Lorme and her husband, Mike, of Waterbury; two grandsons, Wyatt E. Cahill and Seth T. Cahill, both of Waterbury; his sisters, Joan Slater, Paula Smith, Judy Reilly and her husband, Jim; several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Dan Slater, and his stepson, Matthew Duart.
A funeral service was held Friday, April 19 at Naugatuck Valley Memorial Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck. Burial was to be private and at the convenience of the family.
