NAUGATUCK — Mrs. Sarah B. (Boulware) Sandri, 91 of Naugatuck, passed away Thursday evening, Feb. 13, 2014 at the Beacon Brook Health Center. She was the widow of Paul J. Sandri, who passes away in 2003 after 55 years of marriage.

Mrs. Sandri was born in Hanes, N.C. on April 16, 1922, a daughter of the late David L and Hattie S. (Stone) Boulware and was educated in the Forsyth County school system. She moved to Naugatuck in 1952 and had formerly lived in Virginia, Georgia, and South Carolina. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army-WAC from 1944 through 1946 attaining the rank of Sergeant. She was stationed at Ft. Robinson Prisoner Detention Center in Harrison, Neb. and upon her discharge was awarded the American Service Medal, the WW II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and several years ago received the Connecticut State Service Medal. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Naugatuck, a former deacon, and had been a volunteer at the “Clothier” of the church. In her earlier years, Sarah enjoyed walking and bicycling.

The family would like to thank Sarah’s companion and aide, Monica Phillips and the staff of Beacon Brook Health Facility for the outstanding care provided to Sarah during her illness.

She leaves her son, Paul D. Sandri of Naugatuck; one brother, David L. Boulware of Pompano Beach, Fla. and one sister, Betty Lou Tyre of Eustis, Fla. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Joseph, Ann, Kathleen and Frances.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 9:30 a.m. from the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., and proceed to the Congregational Church of Naugatuck for a service at 10 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in the State Veteran’s Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening Feb. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until the procession leaves for church.
