UNION CITY — Mrs. Genevieve “Gay” (Wozniak) Witkoski, 102, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Candlewood Valley Health Care Center in New Milford. She was widow of Felix Witkoski, Sr.

Mrs. Witkoski was born in Union City on March 22, 1911, daughter of the late Adam and Anna (Wyskowski) Wozniak. She was a longtime resident of Union City. She was a communicant of St. Hedwig Church where she belonged to the parish Ladies Guild. Gay had retired from Everybody’s Market in Waterbury and she later became the cook for the late Rev. Paul Wysocki at Sacred Heart Parish in New Britain. Gay was an avid UConn women’s basketball and New York Yankees baseball fan. She enjoyed all types of crafts and her favorite candy Russell Stover jellybeans.

She leaves her son, Robert Witkoski and his wife Diane of Washington; her daughter, Ann Marie Sawicki of San Carlos, Calif; five grandchildren, Kari (Sawicki) Reynolds, Bill Witkoski, Jeff Sawicki, Stacey Lucas and Sage Kowalski; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Genevieve was predeceased by her son, Felix William Witkoski, Jr.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Hedwig Church, 32 Golden Hill St., Naugatuck for a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
