SEYMOUR — Helen Mary Dutkanicz Remeika, 97, of Seymour, beloved wife of the late Walter J. Remeika, entered into rest at the Lutheran Home of Southbury on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013. She was born in Ansonia on March 9, 1915, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Dutkanicz.

She was a waitress for many years at the former Garden Gate Restaurant of Seymour, and formerly worked for Soncca and the Silverman Group. Helen was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Oxford. She graduated from the Ansonia Business College and attended Stone College of New Haven. Helen was an avid N.Y. Yankees fan, she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Her loving family includes her caring daughter Lois Hummel and her husband John of Southbury; two loving grandchildren James Hummel of Waterbury and Laura Hummel of Southbury and two cherished great-grandchildren Peri and Alex Hummel.

She was predeceased by seven brothers and one sister.

Helen’s family wishes to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff, nurses and aides at the Lutheran Home of Southbury for their compassionate and excellent care given to Helen during her stay there.

Abiding by Helen’s wishes all services were held privately by the family. The Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St., Seymour, is caring for the family.
