BREWSTER, Mass. — Thomas J. Cronen, formerly of 15 Joseph Road, Naugatuck, and EPOCH of Brewster passed from this life on Aug. 4, 2012 at his home in Brewster, Mass. He was the husband, for the past 62 years, of Malvena (Federonis) Cronen formerly of 15 Joseph Road Naugatuck and EPOCH of Brewster in Brewster, Mass.

Mr. Cronen was born in Waterbury on Oct. 15, 1930 the son of the late Cathryn (Corcoran) Cronen and Thomas J. Cronen. He was raised in Waterbury and graduated from Cheshire Academy and the University of New Haven and was a long time resident of Naugatuck.

He worked as a corrosion engineer for the Northeast Utilities Service Company for 43 years before retiring in 1991. He was a lifelong member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers and a past director of the northeast region. In addition, he was past chairman of the Appalachian Underground Corrosion Short Course at the University of West Virginia. He was also the head of his own consulting firm, Corrosion Protection Testing Service based in Naugatuck.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and a communicant of St. Francis Church in Naugatuck.

Beside his wife he leaves three sons, Thomas D. Cronen, Steven J. Cronen and David J. Cronen, seven grandchildren and several cousins.

Too often we don’t take time during a lifetime to give tribute to someone we all love and cherish, therefore, here’s to 81 wonderful years with Thomas Joseph Cronen — husband, father, grandfather, friend. We all love you, dad and grandpa.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck for a mass at 11 a.m. Burial with full military honors will be in St. James Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
