HARTFORD — State Rep. Lezlye Zupkus (R-89) has been appointed to the state’s Child Poverty and Prevention Council by House Minority Leader Larry Cafero (R-142).
The council, created through legislation in 2004, is tasked with developing and promoting a plan to reduce the number of children living in poverty. It establishes prevention goals and recommendations and measures prevention service outcomes in order to promote the health and well-being of children and families, according to a press release issued by Zupkus’ office.
“I’m honored to have been selected for this important post that provides the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of so many Connecticut residents,” said Zupkus in the release.
The council includes legislators and legislative staff, representatives from state agencies and commissions and professionals from family-focused organizations.
“Lezlye, a mother to two young children, will be an excellent addition to a council that has such an important mission for our next generation,” said Cafero in the release. “She’s been a great voice at the Capitol for the towns she represents, and I have faith that she’ll do the same for children all over this state.”
