PROSPECT — The Senior High Youth Fellowship from the Prospect Congregational Church is raising awareness for homeless greater Waterbury area by sleeping out in the open this weekend.

The group is holding its 12th Annual Homeless Awareness Sleepout. For 24 hours beginning Saturday at noon, the group will be on the island in front of Town Hall on Route 69. They will spend the day collecting donations for the Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries. At night, the group will experience what it is like to be homeless. They will have to figure out how to stay warm and will be able to eat only soup cooked over a small fire barrel. They will also be given some loose plastic and sticks and figure out how to survive the elements just like the homeless do every day.
