NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck YMCA plans to build a community playground thanks to a Let’s Play Community Construction Grant.

Dr Pepper Snapple Group and KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit organization, recently awarded the YMCA a $15,000 grant to build the playground.

“The Naugatuck YMCA is very excited to be receiving this grant,” said YMCA CEO Susan Talbot in a press release. “This grant money will go a long way as the YMCA will now be able to provide an outdoor play structure for the children enrolled in our programs and in the Naugatuck community.”

The playground is expected to be built in the back parking lot of the YMCA on Church Street next spring.

Let’s Play is an initiative by Dr Pepper Snapple Group to “provide children and families with the tools, places and inspiration to make active play a daily priority.” The group partners with KaBOOM! and Good Sports, a nonprofit organization, to build and improve playgrounds in underserved communities and provide grants for sports equipment.
