NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck YMCA’s preschool and early learning center received community support to provide child care for infants and toddlers.

The YMCA received $500 donations from the Fortney family and Thomas and Emily Saunders as well as a $6,000 donation from the Naugatuck Rotary Foundation to fund a room for infants.

The Connecticut Community Foundation gave the YMCA a $10,095 grant to finish work for a room for 1- and 2-year-old toddlers. The money was used to build the room and purchase supplies and equipment.

“This effort is a testament to the community’s support of the YMCA and we couldn’t be more thankful to all of those who helped make this a possibility,” said YMCA CEO Mark LaFortune in a news release.

The preschool and early learning center is licensed for 62 children, including eight infants and 16 toddlers. The new rooms are open and accepting children. For information, contact Ruth Paul, director of the center, at rpaul@naugatuckymca.org or 203-729-9622.

“The new addition of infant and toddlers to our program provides a great opportunity for children in our community to experience the benefits of early social, intellectual and physical experiences they may not have the opportunity to experience,” Paul said in a news release.
